The names Fumé Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc are interchangeable for the same grape. In France you will find Pouilly Fumé, which is the French Sauvignon Blanc. When compared to the oaky style of Chardonnay, Sauvignon is often a better choice of white wine with food and is also less expensive. See the additional comments on Semillon for additional information.
